The Country Club is the oldest country club in the United States. It holds an important place in golf history, as it is one of the five charter clubs that founded the United States Golf Association and is a major supporter of amateur level golf. Today, the club remains exclusive limited to nearly 1,300 members.
The Country Club has hosted 17 major championships; of these, six were U.S. Amateurs (the most recent in 2013) and three U.S. Opens (1913, 1963, 1988). The Country Club was also host to the 1999 Ryder Cup Matches. The Country Club is the future host site of the 2022 U.S. Open Championship.
